On Friday, June 12, 2026, the City of Yonkers held its annual LGBTQIA+ Flag Raising Ceremony at the Unity Fountain outside Yonkers City Hall. The event brought together community members, Yonkers Pride, elected officials, and advocates to celebrate Pride Month, visibility, inclusion, and the continued progress of the LGBTQ+ community.
Among those in attendance were Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Councilmembers Tasha Diaz and John Rubbo, and residents from across the city. Speakers included Michael Sabatino, Mayor Mike Spano, and Anthony Nicodemo, Chair of the City of Yonkers LGBTQ Advisory Board and President of the Hudson Valley Stonewall Democrats.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Michael Sabatino Legacy Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a lasting and meaningful impact on the local LGBTQ+ community. This year’s recipient was Yonkers Firefighter Devon Chisholm.
Chisholm, who was married by Mayor Mike Spano, has dedicated his career to serving and protecting the residents of Yonkers. His commitment to public service and his contributions to the LGBTQ+ community have made him a respected figure throughout the city.
As the Pride Flag was raised over Yonkers City Hall, the ceremony served as a reminder of the importance of visibility, acceptance, and community. It was also an opportunity to celebrate leaders like Devon Chisholm, whose service continues to make a difference in the lives of others.
Congratulations to Firefighter Devon Chisholm on this well-deserved honor.
