Nature Camp Counselors Needed with Westchester County Parks, Recreation and Conservation

The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation is looking for enthusiastic educators, naturalists, leaders, and outdoor enthusiasts to teach at our summer Nature Camps in Westchester’s most beautiful forests, meadows, and shorelines. Camps operate from early July through mid-August, and counselors will share their knowledge and love of the outdoors with campers from pre-K through middle school. Positions available in Yonkers, Rye, North White Plains, Katonah and Cross River. 

As a Nature Camp Counselor, you will:

  • Develop and lead interactive, educational activities that encourage a love of nature and the outdoors for school-aged campers
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers during camp activities
  • Communicate effectively with campers on a regular basis, providing a positive experience for all participants

Qualifications
Applicants should possess a love of nature, a willingness to work outdoors, and the ability to communicate effectively. Preference will be given to candidates with a proven history of leadership, environmental education, or research, yet all applications are welcome. Enthusiasm and curiosity are a must!

Pre-K group leader and assistant applicants are preferred to have a teaching certificate and experience working with children between the ages of three and five years old.

Applicants should have own transportation to and from camp.

Hours/Salary
Nature camp staff are hourly positions. Hours are Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Salary range is $17.10 – $20 per hour. Salary is commensurate with experience.

  • Lenoir Preserve, Yonkers
  • Marshlands Conservancy, Rye
  • Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River
