TO CONSERVE ENERGY
Company Reduces Voltage by 8 Percent to Maintain Reliability
Con Edison is asking customers in certain communities in Westchester County to conserve energy while company crews repair equipment. Con Edison has also reduced voltage by 8 percent in the areas as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as repairs are completed.
The equipment problems in these areas have no effect on the rest of the Con Edison system.
One area affected by the voltage reduction includes parts or all of: White Plains, Scarsdale, Rye, Eastchester and Harrison, along with some customers in the northeast Bronx and on City Island. The voltage reduction could affect about 36,700 customers.
Con Edison has asked customers in these areas not to use energy-intensive appliances such as washers, dryers, and microwaves until crews complete repairs. The company also asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning. If you have two air conditioners, use only one and set it to the highest comfortable temperature.
The company also requests that customers refrain from charging electric vehicles until repairs are made.

When calling, customers should report whether their neighbors also have lost power. Customers who report outages will receive updates with their estimated restoration times as they become available.

Westchester County Advises Against Recreational Use of the Hudson River Following Yonkers Wastewater System Failure
Residents Urged to Avoid Contact with River Until Further Notice
(White Plains, NY) – Westchester County Department of Health is advising residents to avoid all recreational use of the Hudson River following a power failure at the Yonkers Sewage Treatment System.
Residents are urged to refrain from swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, boating with water contact, fishing from the water, or participating in any other recreational activities involving contact with the Hudson River in the following communities:
- New York City
- Yonkers
- Hastings-on-Hudson
- Dobbs Ferry
- Irvington
- Tarrytown
- Sleepy Hollow
- Briarcliff Manor
Additionally, Phillips Manor Beach Club has been closed until further notice.
