Yonkers Mayor Spano’s African American Advisory Board Opens Nominations for Legacy of Impact Award Honoring Unsung Local Heroes

Online Applications Available & Accepted through February 6 at Yonkersny.gov/legacyawards

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano’s African American Advisory Board is proud to announce the opening of nominations for the Legacy of Impact Award, to be presented in honor of Black History Month in February. The Legacy of Impact Award recognizes two African American individuals in Yonkers whose contributions have uplifted the community through service, leadership, and quiet excellence.

“Our city is blessed with individuals who give of themselves quietly, consistently, and wholeheartedly,” said Mayor Spano. “The Legacy of Impact Award allows us to shine a light on these remarkable individuals and thank them for the difference they make in Yonkers every day.”

This award reflects the Board’s mission to spotlight African American individuals whose work has shaped Yonkers’ cultural and historical landscape, particularly those whose impact may not have received the public acknowledgment it deserves.

Community members are encouraged to submit nominations for individuals who exemplify resilience, service, and leadership in Yonkers. Nominations for the 2026 Legacy of Impact Award are open through Friday, February 6, and will be presented during Black History Month in February. To nominate and review submission guidelines and deadlines, visit Yonkersny.gov/legacyawards.
