Crime is Down in Yonkers; Recent Homicide First Since 2025

The latest shooting in Yonkers, which resulted in the death of 20-year old Brandon Garcia, has brought a renewed focus on crime in Yonkers.

But before the shooting last week, Yonkers hasen’t had a homicide since last August (2025).

Compared to 2025 YTD, Yonkers is down 83% in Homicides (1 vs 6) and down 33% in shooting incidents in which a victim was struck by gunfire (6 vs 9).

The recent high point was In 2016, when there were 9 total homicides and 35 total shootings.

Since then, there hasn’t been double-digit homicide numbers in over a decade.

Obviously, one shooting or homicide is too many, but for a city of Yonkers’ size, the stats are incredibly low and incomparable to any city of its size.
