Free app helps visitors explore Westchester’s trails more safely, confidently and conveniently
Exploring Westchester County’s award-winning parks and trails is now easier, safer and more enjoyable with its integration in the TrailEyes app, a free mobile app designed to help hikers, runners, cyclists and walkers make the most of the County’s more than 150 miles of trails and thousands of acres of parkland.
Featuring interactive maps, real-time GPS navigation and offline functionality in many areas, TrailEyes helps users always know where they are and where they’re headed. The app’s most valuable safety features is its partnership with what3words, which has assigned a unique three-word address to every 10-foot (3-meter) square on Earth. In an emergency, hikers, bikers and other park visitors can instantly share their precise location with first responders, helping emergency personnel locate them more quickly through integration with 911 Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.

The TrailEyes app makes those experiences even better and safer. By integrating the “what3words” feature with the County’s 911 Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, someone can be located instantly and precisely, enabling emergency personnel to provide faster and more effective assistance when every second counts.”
Public Safety Commissioner Terrance Raynor said: “Our officers are often called upon to assist lost or injured persons on trails in Westchester, including in remote areas. The precise location information provided through this app will enable help to arrive more promptly than ever.”
TrailEyes offers an impressive collection of features that enhance every outdoor adventure. Users can discover new trails based on difficulty, elevation and points of interest, while community ratings and reviews make it easy to choose the perfect route. The app also provides real-time weather updates, trail conditions, park events, closures and recreational programs to help visitors plan ahead.
