Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City of Yonkers for the sixth year in a row.

To receive this recognition, the City of Yonkers met the highest nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation, including how the budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, operations guide, and communications device.

“This award signals to our residents that their tax dollars are being managed responsibly and transparently,” said Mayor Spano. “Congratulations to our talented and professional finance team, led by Commissioner John Liszewski and Budget Director John Jacobson. Their diligent work promotes effective and efficient use of public resources while supporting our City and its residents.”

“This award reflects not just numbers, but the clarity, accessibility, and accountability we owe to residents who rely on a budget that is understandable and trustworthy,” said Commissioner of Finance John Liszewski. “I commend the Budget department for its excellence in the formulation of this budget, which reflects the core services and the resulting outcomes of this process.”

There are over 1,700 participants in the GFOA’s Budget Awards Program. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an example for other governments throughout North America. GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 25,000 members and the communities they serve.
