Yonkers NAACP Ordered to Cease and Desist All Activities Due to Noncompliance in Filing Annual Financial Report

By Dan Murphy

“The Rev. Frank Coleman, Jr, President of the Yonkers NAACP, sent a letter to members on Nov. 25 which states, “As discussed in our recent general membership meetings, our branch is non-compliant because our Annual Financial Report (AFR) has not been submitted to the National Office by Raquel Ali who was our Treasurer, and she has since resigned.

“Because we are noncompliant, we received a letter from the National office instructing us to cease and desist all activity pertaining to our election that was scheduled for November 25th from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. via Election Buddy. Subsequently, we were instructed by our Regional Director, Wilbur Aldridge, that this cease and desist also pertains to all branch activities, including meetings. Therefore, the November 25th meeting is canceled.

“We will hear from National once we are in compliance. Thank you all for your support, and we will keep you informed,” writes Coleman, President of NAACP-YONKERS BRANCH #2188.

One of the newer members said that NAACP Yonkers Branch #2188 has been having “constant problems” in recent months. Rev. Coleman announced at the last meeting that he would be stepping down from his position.

A new election was set for tonight, Nov. 25, before this announcement. “The members deserve an explanation as to what is going on,” said the member.

It is estimated that the branch has around 50 members.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
