Trump Sues NY AG James

Former President Donald Trump and his real estate company, filed a federal lawsuit in Albany attempting to stop New York Attorney General from her investigation into the Trump organization. NY Attorney General Letitia James is said to be looking at the financial records and tax statments of both the President and the Trump Organization.

The lawsuit claims that AG James investigations against Trump are politically motivated.  “Her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent…Since taking office, she has tirelessly bombarded him, his family and his business, Trump Organization LLC, with unwarranted subpoenas in a bitter crusade to ‘take on’ the President….Absent judicial relief, James will continue to violate Plaintiffs’ rights in an unconstitutional manner and Plaintiffs will suffer imminent and irreparable harms,” the suit states.

Attorney General James response was, “The Trump Organization has continually sought to delay our investigation into its business dealings and now Donald Trump and his namesake company have filed a lawsuit as an attempted collateral attack on that investigation. To be clear, neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization get to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions. Our investigation will continue undeterred because no one is above the law, not even someone with the name Trump.”

In August 2020, Attorney General James filed a motion to compel the Trump Organization to provide the Office of the Attorney General with documents and testimony from multiple witnesses regarding several, specific Trump Organization properties and transactionsSince then, the court has ruled in Attorney General James’ favor multiple times.

Attorney General James ended a recent run for Governor because she had important cases that she wanted to complete, with the former President on the top of her list along with the NRA. And James has never been shy about her legal pursuit of Trump.

“We’re going to definitely sue him. We’re going to be a real pain in the ass. He’s going to know my name personally.”

Most legal scholars believe that the NY AG has the right to prosecute Trump if her criminal and civil investigations come up with the evidence to do so. Eventually, a Judge will have to decide if James has enough to proceed to a trial, and a jury would have to conclude Trump’s guilt or innocence.

And while Trump in this lawsuit against James has singled out the NY AG, there are other law enforcement agencies looking to convict the former President, including the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, the U.S. Attorney, and Westchester District Attorney Mimi Rocah.
