The Yonkers Downtown Getty Square Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., drawing dozens of residents despite bitterly cold temperatures. The one-hour celebration offered a full range of festive activities including hot chocolate, live music, candy canes, and opportunities for neighbors to enjoy each other’s company. All attractions were free to the public.

Paxo’s Grill & Café provided complimentary hot chocolate, which quickly became a favorite among attendees seeking warmth. The event was made possible through collaboration among the Stagg Family Foundation, Yonkers Economic Development Corporation, the City of Yonkers, the Department of Parks, Recreation & Conservation, and Paxo’s Grill & Café. Their combined efforts ensured that the annual tradition remained accessible to families across the city.

High school students were seen at the event too and singers performed throughout the evening. A costumed Grinch character made its way through the crowd, adding lighthearted fun to the gathering. The program also drew a strong political presence. New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Westchester County Legislator Shanae Williams, Yonkers Councilmember Deana R. Norman, and Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano all attended and offered remarks.

While the turnout consisted of several dozen residents, their presence reflected a shared commitment to civic pride and seasonal celebration. The cold weather did little to deter Yonkers families, young folks, and longtime community members from coming together to usher in the holiday season in the heart of Getty Square.
