Mike Khader Responds to Yonkers Shooting and Calls for Stronger City Council Leadership and Community Engagement

In response to the tragic shooting that occurred on March 5 in broad daylight, which left two individuals injured, City Council President candidate Mike Khader is voicing his deep concern about the escalating violence in Yonkers and stressing the need for stronger community engagement and leadership in times of crisis.

With the city facing an uptick in violent incidents, including at least two shootings per month since the start of the year, City Council President candidate Khader is calling for a unified approach to address public safety issues. He emphasized that leadership during times of crisis is critical, not just through statements, but through action, community support, and collaboration with law enforcement and local organizations.

“Yesterday’s incident is a tragic reminder that we must take immediate and comprehensive action to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods,” Khader said. “Our community needs leaders who are not just present but actively working to prevent violence and support residents in times of need.”

City Council President candidate Khader, expressed concern that, despite the increasing frequency of violent acts, the City Council has yet to address the issue with urgency and clarity. He believes that more can be done to foster stronger communication between elected officials, local law enforcement, and community members.

“We all share the responsibility of ensuring the safety of our city, and that includes working together to find solutions and not just pointing fingers. The residents of Yonkers deserve leadership that shows up and leads with conviction, especially when it matters most,” Khader continued. “It’s important to recognize that each of us has a role in addressing this issue. For me, this means advocating for a more proactive approach to public safety, supporting our police and community-based organizations, and ensuring that every resident feels heard and protected.”

Khader also reiterated his commitment to public safety, calling for stronger community policing efforts, enhanced support for local law enforcement, and initiatives aimed at addressing the root causes of violence in the community. He stressed the importance of collaboration and the need for solutions that address both the immediate concerns and long-term strategies to prevent future violence.

“In my vision for Yonkers, we will have a City Council that listens, responds, and leads with both strength and compassion, especially in moments like this. I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure our city is a safe place where everyone feels secure in their homes and neighborhoods,” Khader concluded.

Mike Khader is running for Yonkers City Council President, focusing on public safety, community unity, and fiscal responsibility. His campaign is centered on the belief that every Yonkers resident deserves leadership that is responsive, present, and compassionate, particularly during times of crisis.
