Trump Administration Delivers $25 Million for Route 9 Improvements in Westchester

Trump’s Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy Invests Billions
into Infrastructure, Including $32.4 Million for New York for Family Friendly and Safety Improvements

On July 7, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced an investment of $1.73 billion into 127 projects in 52 states, territories and the District of Columbia, including $32.4 million for New York. From Alaska to Florida and Maine to Hawaii, the Trump Administration is delivering critical roadway, transit, rail, maritime, and aviation infrastructure improvements for American families and businesses.

New York will be receiving $32.4 million for roadway and transit infrastructure projects, including:

  • $25 million to reconstruct a mile and half of U.S. Route 9 in Westchester County to install new roundabouts and traffic signals and enhance sidewalks and pedestrian crossings to improve safety, make the area more family-friendly, and cut down on travel time.
  • $7.4 million to improve safety between trains and vehicles at three crossings in Suffolk County.

“America is fortunate to have a Builder in the White House who knows America is only as great as our infrastructure. That’s why this Department is investing in repairing critical roads and bridges that connect Americans to job opportunities, port infrastructure that bolsters our national security, and aviation and transit projects that move American families. The impact of these dollars will be felt in communities nationwide for years to come,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

With dollars from the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program, the Department is investing in:

  • Roads and bridges, which received $1.3 billion, roughly 77% of the total funding, to upgrade critical arteries for commuters and America’s hardworking truckers who keep our economy moving.
  • Port infrastructure, which received $136.8 million to expand capacity, reduce bottlenecks and help restore America’s maritime dominance.
  • Transit projects, which received $169.9 million to enhance safety and improve reliability of public transit for American families.
  • Truck parking, which received $62 million to address the truck parking shortage across states.
  • Aviation infrastructure, which received more than $11 million to improve airport roadways.
  • Freight and passenger rail initiatives, which received $87.7 million to modernize America’s railroads and move passengers and goods more efficiently.

Additional Information:

Under President Trump and Secretary Duffy, the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program is delivering critical infrastructure upgrades that will support American families and businesses in America’s Golden Age. USDOT received nearly 1,200 applications across all 50 states, collectively requesting more than $14.5 billion in funding.

Because U.S. Route 9 spans the entire East Coast, multiple federal, state, and local initiatives are underway to upgrade the corridor. These projects—spanning New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, and Massachusetts—are heavily backed by federal grants from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to improve safety, congestion and pedestrian access.
