“The Enemy Have Burned Bedford” a Staged Reading at Bedford’s Historical Hall
As part of the Town of Bedford’s RevUP 250 celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, Apple Tree Productions will present a staged reading of “The Enemy Have Burned Bedford” at Historical Hall, located at 608 Old Post Road, Bedford, NY on November 20th, 21st and 22nd with evening performances at 7:30 PM on Friday and Saturday and matinees at 2:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
Based on interviews held in the 1840s and 1850s of Bedford survivors of the Revolutionary War 65 years earlier, “The Enemy Have Burned Bedford” explores the trauma and suffering of those caught in the so-called “Neutral Ground” being fought over by the British and their Loyalist allies and American Patriots.
But this is no ordinary “staged reading”. They’ll be a fiddler playing American Revolutionary favorites. Over 100 projected images will give context to the spoken words. Authentic cuisine appropriate for the times will be served. And as an extra added feature, an area resident skilled in the history of the revolution in Northern Westchester will provide a background for what occurred. And, yes, George Washington will make a cameo appearance!
This is a very appropriate event for those 4th graders studying local history. It doesn’t get more local than this!
The cast includes Judy Allen, Michael Barnhart, Chris Blossy, Elizabeth Breslin, Nancy Maloy, Joe Niola, Simon Skolnik, Lew Zwick, and our wonderful fiddler, Rachel Krause. Joe Niola is the director.
Free parking is available behind St. Patrick’s Church across the street.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, and are available at Eventbrite.com (Search for “Burned Bedford”) or at the door. Seating is limited, so buy your tickets early. For more information, please contact, burningofbedford@gmail.com.
