Hochul Wins Westchester with 70%, Leading Dems to Victory Across the Board
By Dan Murphy
We continue to analyze the 2026 Election results, and here in Westchester the Statewide candidates and the candidates for State Senate and Assembly lost by large margins.
Governor Kathy Hochul won Westchester with 70%, defeating republican Bruce Blakeman who got 30%. So, the political theory that resulted in NY democrats changing the dates of election for Gov., Comptroller and Attorney General to conincide with local races appears to have paid off.
Four years ago, Hochul got 53% of the vote, to 47% for republican Lee Zeldin. And Zeldin did much better in Westchester.
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli got 73%, to 27% for republican Joseph Hernandez.
Attorney General Letitia James got 69%, with 31% for republican Saritha Komatireddy.
Republican number for State Senate and Assembly in Westchester were just as bad.
State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins got 75% of the vote, with republican Anthony Merante at 25% in the 35th district.
State Senator Shelley Mayer got 72% of the vote, with republican Tom Fix at 28%, in the 37th district.
One race we were watching was in the 40th district, with State Senator Pete Harckham with 68%, with republican Sergio Esposito at 32%. Some believe that Esposito would give Harckham a run for his money, but it didn’t happen.
More on the other races tomorrow, as we wait the final count from the Board of Elections.
