Congressman George Latimer took to the floor of the House of Representatives to celebrate Italian Heritage Month and the upcoming Yonkers Columbus Day parade.
“Mr. Speaker, in October, communities come together to celebrate Italian Heritage Month, with events, parades, and celebrations taking place across the country. At home in New York, we will take part in celebrations at the 99th annual Yonkers Columbus Day parade, featuring live music, a flag-raising ceremony, and concluding with an Italian street festival, filled with everyone’s favorite Italian dishes and treats.
“The event will also crown a new Ms. Columbus, a long-standing tradition honoring one Yonkers resident who exemplifies leadership and service in the community. We also recognize events in Eastchester, Port Chester, and Harrison to celebrate Italian Heritage Month.
“I commend the City of Yonkers, along with the Columbus Day Committee, for continuing to keep these cherished traditions alive and providing a space where our Italian neighbors can gather to celebrate their history and culture,” said Rep. Latimer.
The 2026 Yonkers Columbus Day Committee presents the 99th Annual Yonkers Columbus Day Celebration, featuring a series of community events culminating in the Columbus Day Street Festival and Parade on Sunday, October 4. The parade begins at 1:00 PM.
