SUNY Westchester Community College Sees Significant Increase in Veteran Enrollment

SUNY Westchester Community College (SUNY WCC) is proud to announce a significant rise in the number of veterans choosing to further their education at the college. Since the Spring 2021 semester, veteran enrollment has doubled, increasing from 105 students to 210 in Spring 2025. This growth reflects the college’s ongoing commitment to providing high-quality educational opportunities and comprehensive support for those who have served our country.

SUNY WCC offers a range of resources to assist veterans and their families, including financial aid guidance and academic counseling. Veterans and their eligible family members can take advantage of GI Bill®, Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA), Military Career Advancement Account (MyCAA), Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) programs and more to help fund their education. Additionally, thanks to new rules regarding the Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD) now is a good time for veterans to check to see if they are eligible for educational benefits through the VA. The college’s Veterans Resource Office and financial aid counselors are well-versed in all aspects of Post 9/11 GI Bill assistance and are dedicated to helping veterans navigate the process. “The remarkable increase in veteran enrollment at SUNY WCC is a testament to our commitment to supporting those who have served,” said Travis Melby, Veterans Assistant Director. “We understand the unique challenges that veterans face when transitioning to higher education, and we are here to provide them with the resources, guidance, and community they need to succeed.”
