Halloweekend & Day of the Dead at Hudson River Museum

October 30, 31-12noon-5pm

Trick or treat this year at our annual Halloweekend celebration and enjoy family-friendly activities! Explore our haunted historic home on a Gothic Glenview Tour, learn about the stars in our spooky planetarium show, The Sky Tonight: Night Frights, create a jar-o’-lantern to take home in our Family Art Workshop, and meet some scaly friends at our Live Reptile Show with the Wizard of Lizards! Guests who come in costume will receive candy in the lobby throughout the weekend.

In Mexico, Dia de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is observed every year on November 1 and 2. Dia de Muertos is a special holiday meant to celebrate death and life, when, unlike any other holiday, mourning is transformed into celebration. Families create an ofrenda, or altar, where they honor the lives of their past loved ones. These ofrendas are believed to encourage visits from the departed souls as they hear their prayers, smell the food, and join the celebration!

Come celebrate Dia de Muertos on Saturday by creating your very own corazones y marionetas de papel, or paper hearts and puppets. We also invite you to participate in our community altar by bringing photos of departed loved ones to place on the ofrenda, which will be on view all weekend. We recommend bringing copies of pictures to leave at the Museum.

On Sunday, decorate your own mason jar to create a mini jar-o’-lantern and enjoy a live show with the Wizard of Lizards at 1pm (recommended for ages 5+)!

But don’t worry, the full moon won’t turn you into a werewolf. Recommended for ages 8+; 60-minute live and interactive show. Advance reservations are encouraged.

The Sky Tonight is sponsored by Domino Sugar Yonkers Refinery.

Live Reptile Show with the Wizard of Lizards Sunday, October 30, 1–2pm
