Mayor Mike Spano Appoints Ada Medina as New Yonkers City Court Judge

On Jan. 11, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced his appointment of Ada D. Medina as a new City Court Judge for the City of Yonkers. Mayor Spano swore in Medina today at Yonkers City Hall.

“I am proud to appoint Ada Medina as our new City Court Judge,” said Mayor Spano. “Ada has been in public service for over 20 years, serving the Westchester community, especially our most vulnerable population, providing legal representation to those who are unable to afford an attorney. Ada’s professionalism, deep knowledge and experience in the judicial system will prove to be a great asset to the Yonkers City Court system.”

Medina joins the Yonkers City Court bench after serving as the Region Chief and counsel for Legal Aid Society of Westchester. There, she supervised attorneys who litigate the top three felony caseloads in Westchester County. From 2017-2021, Medina supervised the Yonkers region. Medina holds a Juris Doctor Degree from the Northeastern University School of Law.

“I am thankful and appreciative for the confidence that Mayor Spano has expressed in me by this appointment,” commented Honorable Ada Medina, Yonkers City Court Judge.  “I know that there were other well-qualified candidates under consideration and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my career in public service right here in my home City, where I was born and raised and love so dearly.  I look forward to serving Yonkers as a fair and impartial jurist under the leadership of Chief Judge Doran and my fellow associate judges.  I congratulate Judge Quiñones on his election to the Supreme Court Justice and I thank him for his mentorship throughout the years.”

Medina fills the vacant seat left by Judge Thomas Quiñones and will run for a full 10-year term in the November 2022 election. Medina joins Hon. Karen N. Best, Hon. Arthur J. Doran, III, Hon. Evan Inlaw, Hon. Daniel P. Romano, Hon. Verris B. Shako, Hon. Elena Goldberg Velazquez on the Yonkers City Court bench.

More than 12 Yonkers attorneys sought this appointment, and some may compete for the position in the upcoming democratic primary in June.
