FIND OUT FRIDAY: AN ELECTRIC FEEL!
We’re back with another episode of FIND OUT FRIDAY, and today we’re finding out that greeting our Officers with a hatchet is a surefire way to be introduced to electricity.
On October 13th, Yonkers Police Officers from our Emergency Service Unit (ESU) and 2nd Precinct responded to a residence after concerned family members called for assistance regarding a relative who was behaving erratically, holding a “cutting tool”.
Upon entering the home, Officers were confronted by a man armed with a large hatchet who had been shouting aggressively and was refusing repeated commands to drop the weapon. With the situation becoming increasingly dangerous, Officers had to act quickly to bring the encounter to a safe conclusion.
A well-placed TASER deployment, courtesy of our friends at Axon, quickly brought the situation under control, causing the man to drop the hatchet and allowing Officers to safely take him into custody. Officers then transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment and evaluation.
The bottom line? Our Officers were faced with an armed individual in a potentially deadly situation and were able to resolve it without resorting to deadly force. That is why we invest in these invaluable tools and the training that accompanies them.
Why do we post this stuff? To show you the dangers our Officers face every day, and the lengths they go to in order to bring dangerous situations to a safe conclusion. Excellent work by all involved, demonstrating the training, professionalism, and restraint that help keep our Officers and the public safe!
