Yonkers Police Investigate Fatal Shooting on Cliff Street; 28 New Officers Join “Yonkers Finest”

Just after 9:00PM on July 17, 2021, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to the area of 53 Cliff Street in the confines of the 3rd Precinct on a report of shots fired. Responding officers located a victim at that location with an apparently fatal gunshot wound. The area was cordoned off as units initiated a criminal investigation.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad, Crime Scene Unit, and Digital Forensics Unit are currently continuing that investigation. No arrests have been made at this time. The victim is identified as an 18-year-old resident of the State of North Carolina. The investigation is ongoing at this time and more information may be released as it becomes available.

On July 15, Mayor Mike Spano and Police Commissioner John Mueller presided over a ceremony yesterday which added 28 new Police Officers to the Yonkers Police Department while elevating 3 members to positions of higher authority and responsibility within the department. The event took place at the Riverfront Library in the presence of family, friends, and peers.The new hires include 27 recruits that are scheduled to enter the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Police Academy where they will attend Basic Recruit School; a 20-week program including courses in police science, law, physical fitness training, and more. One new hire is of prior Police service and will be assigned shortly after internal training. The addition of these new officers reinforces the City of Yonkers’ commitment to public safety.
