Yonkers Heroes Honored for Saving Mother-Daughter Trapped Under Car

The City of Yonkers honored two Yonkers Police officers and three Good Samaritans at City Hall on August 4 for their heroism in saving a mother and daughter who were trapped under a car.

Officer Paul Samoyedny and Officer Rocco Fusco were presented with recognition for their heroic acts in the line of duty for their roles in the rescue of an infant trapped under a vehicle after an accident on July 23, 2021. Also honored were Good Samaritans Michael Lo Russo, Jose Suero, and Bart Castillo! These three civilians were bystanders to the accident who all jumped into action and played integral roles in the successful rescue that day.

Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller Mayor Mike Spano, NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, City Council President Mike Khader and City Councilman John Rubbo attended the ceremony.

Jorge Palacios, the father of the infant saved, also attended and expressed his heartfelt thanks to all who took part in the rescue. He wanted to make sure he passed on the GREAT NEWS that his daughter, baby Leslie, has been released from the hospital with an incredible prognosis on her recovery. Myrna, Leslie’s mom, remains in the hospital but has made REMARKABLE progress and is expected to be released in the coming weeks!
