AND BURGLARIZING HER APARTMENT
Ajany Waite, 33, brutally assaulted his ex-girlfriend with a kitchen knife, only to be stopped by the woman’s son, who interceded in this merciless assault
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced today that a jury has found Ajany Waite, 33, of Mount Vernon, guilty of several felonies for slashing his ex-girlfriend in the face with a knife and burglarizing her apartment in June 2025.
On June 17, a Westchester County jury convicted Waite of two counts of Assault in the First Degree, a class B felony, two counts of Burglary in the First Degree, a class B felony, three counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a class A misdemeanor.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 22, when he faces up to 25 years in state prison on the top counts.
DA Cacace said: “The wanton violence committed by this defendant against his former partner is emblematic of the horrors experienced by domestic violence survivors throughout this county, every day. I am grateful that the victim in this case received the justice due to her and to the jury for fulfilling their civic duty. We must ensure that this justice remains accessible to every person in Westchester experiencing violence at the hands of an intimate partner. And my office will work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners until that pronouncement becomes a reality.”
On June 6, 2025, after seeing his ex-girlfriend at a party in the Bronx, the defendant went to her Mount Vernon home and began banging on the front door. After making his way into the building and kicking open her apartment door, the defendant commenced a vicious attack on her.
In flight from the defendant’s attack, the victim ran into her roommate’s bedroom and shut the door, trying to keep it closed. The defendant nevertheless managed to force the door open just enough to slash her on the right side of her face with a large kitchen knife and proceeded to stab her in the left shoulder when she turned her body away from the door. The victim’s son, who was present at the time, retrieved a hammer and used it against the defendant to intercede in this assault. The defendant then fled the premises.
The victim received approximately 25 stitches to her face and six stitches to her shoulder. She also sustained a broken right cheekbone and a torn ligament in her neck.
This case was investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department.
The case is being prosecuted by Domestic Violence Bureau Chief Joyce Miller and Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Kontos.
