Hundreds of people of all ages attended the Rye Free Reading Room’s Annual Book Sale on Saturday and Sunday, September 19 and 20, to browse for bargain used books donated by the community, while supporting the Rye Free Reading Room.
Friends of the library were invited to a special preview the night before the public sale, giving them an opportunity to shop the book sale early and enjoy music by Arcadia Jazz Trio.
Organized by the library’s Auxiliary Board, nearly 9,000 books found new homes, five local charities took in over 750 additional books remaining at the sale’s end, and a record-breaking $20,500 was raised for the library’s children’s programs.
Library Director Chris Shoemaker said, “We hope everyone enjoys the books they found. And before National Library Card Sign-Up Month is over, get your library card if you don’t have one!”
