THE BLUE RESOURCE TABLE, INC. CALLS US TO SERVE AS ONE FOR “KITS FOR KIDS FOR 9/11 DAY”

Twenty-five years after strangers reached out to help one another on September 11, 2001, The Blue Resource Table, Inc. is calling on the community to answer that same call. The Westchester County, New York nonprofit is recruiting 200 volunteers for Kits for Kids for 9/11 Day, a two-day community service project supported by a grant from 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps.

“On September 11, 2001, strangers reached out to help one another without hesitation,” said Tuesday Paige McDonald, Executive Director of The Blue Resource Table, Inc. “Our scholars are learning that same lesson through service. Each kit is assembled by hand and given to a child the volunteer has never met. We remember by serving.”

Volunteers will assemble 380 youth kits on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, ahead of delivery across Peekskill on Friday, September 11, 2026 — the 25th anniversary of the attacks. Delivery day opens with a moment of silence and a universal prayer for the community, led by the Rev. Dr. James Perry, Senior Pastor of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Peekskill, NY, before volunteers carry the kits out into the community. Each kit is a swag bag packed with goodies, essential hygiene items and school supplies, and carries a commemorative “We Remember by Serving” bookmark and a handwritten note of encouragement written by a volunteer.
