SPRING VALLEY MAN INDICTED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER IN YONKERS

Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced that a Spring Valley resident was arraigned on an indictment where he is charged with shooting a Yonkers man in October 2022. The defendant is being held without bail.

Nahkeem Janvier, 21, was indicted by a Westchester County Grand Jury for Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Second Degree, all violent felonies. The defendant was arraigned in Westchester County Court on December 6, 2022.

On October 19, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the defendant allegedly fired three shots at the 33-year-old victim on Vineyard Avenue in Yonkers. The victim transported himself to Jacobi Medical Center, where he underwent emergency treatment for the injuries he suffered as a result of the shooting.

The defendant was apprehended in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 23, 2022, by the FBI’s Charlotte Violent Crime Task Force and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, following an investigation by the Yonkers Police Department, the Village of Spring Valley Police Department and the FBI’s Westchester County Safe Streets Task Force, with assistance from the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. The Westchester County Department of Public Safety assisted Yonkers Police with the defendant’s extradition and arrest.

The case is before Judge Anne Minihan in Westchester County Court, and is being prosecuted by the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau of the Trials and Investigations Division.

The charges against the defendant are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
