Sacred Heart HS Principal Runs Half Marathon to Benefit School

Sacred Heart High School Principal Kyle O’Donnell successfully completed the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on Sunday, March 15, finishing the 13.1-mile race in just over two hours.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Mount Saint Vincent, O’Donnell has dedicated his entire career to Catholic education within the Archdiocese of New York. His commitment to Catholic schools and the values they instill in students inspired him to take on the challenge.

As he ran through the streets of New York City, O’Donnell proudly wore a hoodie that asked, “Which Catholic school did you graduate from?” This simple, but powerful message, celebrated the enduring legacy and impact of Catholic education across New York City and beyond.

By participating in the NYC Half Marathon, O’Donnell not only achieved a personal athletic goal but also highlighted the strength and lasting influence of Catholic education. Catholic schools have helped shape New York’s communities since the early 1800s, forming generations of leaders grounded in faith, service, and academic excellence.

Sacred Heart High School has been a cornerstone of the North Yonkers community since its founding in 1923. For more than a century, thousands of graduates have gone on to enrich the City of Yonkers, New York State, and beyond by sharing the values and lessons instilled by the co-educational institution founded by the Capuchin Franciscans.

The Sacred Heart community rallied behind O’Donnell and celebrated his accomplishment. In a book of well-wishes compiled before the race, one student wrote: “Good luck at the NYC Half Marathon, Mr. O’Donnell! That’s an incredible challenge. Have an awesome race! We are cheering you on and thank you for representing our Catholic school.”
