MAYOR SPANO APPOINTS BUDGET SPECIALIST AL FREY AS YONKERS WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano today announced his appointment of Al Frey as Yonkers’ new Workforce Development Board (WDB) Executive Director. A seasoned budget specialist and recent Manager for the City’s Department of Public Works, Frey replaces outgoing Executive Director Karen Ramos, who is retiring.

“Al brings a proven track record of leadership and collaboration that will strengthen our city’s workforce development efforts,” said Mayor Spano. “His commitment to connecting Yonkers residents with meaningful career opportunities and supporting our local businesses aligns perfectly with our vision for a thriving, inclusive economy. I’m confident that under Al’s direction, the Yonkers Workforce Development Board will continue to empower our community and prepare our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.”

Al Frey commented, “I would like to thank Mayor Spano for giving me the opportunity to help further his vision of helping the City’s residents and local businesses. I believe we can connect both companies and workers to enhance the quality of life for everyone in Yonkers.”

Frey joins the City of Yonkers’ Workforce Development Board after serving as a Manager for the Yonkers’ Department of Public Works and previously as a Budget Analyst for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. During this time with the City, Frey managed operating and capital budget lines for the respective departments. Previously, Frey spent over 20 years with the New York State Department of Financial Services where he conducted investigations into various financial crimes and developed and managed the New York State ATM Safety Program. Frey also has served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Westchester School for Special Children since 2003. Frey holds a Bachelor of Arts from Iona College.

Mayor Spano added, “I also want to extend a special thanks to Karen Ramos for her many years of dedicated service to Yonkers – as the WDB Executive Director, our Planning and Development Department Commissioner and as Deputy Corporation Counsel. We wish Karen a restful and joyful retirement.”
