High Speed Chase Through the Bronx and Yonkers

At just after 9:00 pm yesterday evening, Yonkers Police officers attempted to stop a vehicle after receiving a License Plate Reader (LPR) alert indicating that a vehicle that had fled from police in New York City had entered Yonkers. As officers attempted to conduct the traffic stop, the driver refused to pull over, resulting in a brief pursuit during which the suspect vehicle struck several civilian vehicles, ending the pursuit and allowing Yonkers Police officers to take the driver into custody.

Westbound Yonkers Avenue was temporarily closed while officers processed the scene and has since reopened.

Additionally, some media blogs and social media accounts have inaccurately reported that shots were fired during this incident. Those reports are false. No shots were fired at any point during this incident. Reporting unverified information as fact is irresponsible and unnecessarily contributes to public confusion. We encourage media outlets to verify speculative information through official inquiries before reporting claims submitted by followers or circulated on social media. The public should likewise rely on verified information from official sources rather than online speculation.

As the initial incident originated in New York City, any additional inquiries should be directed to the New York City Police Department
