New York or Delaware?
A sharp-eyed officer assigned to a detail in Glen Island Park recently spotted a vehicle outfitted with a “license plate flipper.” On one side was a legit NY plate. The other side featured a fraudulent Delaware license plate.
The driver, a Bronx woman, lacked a valid driver’s license. So she left the park not only without the gizmo and the bogus license plate, but without the car. It was impounded and towed away. She did leave with a bunch of tickets through, including for driving without a license and having excessive tint. (A friend came to pick her up, and no, his name wasn’t James Bond.)
License plate flippers are commonly used for aesthetic purposes at auto shows, where they allow drivers to switch to display custom or decorative plates. But too often they are used by persons seeking to evade law enforcement or avoid electronic toll systems or automated speed cameras.
Fake plates, as the Delaware one reveals, are indeed BAD news.
