Getting Back Into the World Without A Mask…When?

Letter to the Editor: Dear Yonkers Rising,

I feel lucky but have some questions. Under the NY 1b covid allocation my wife and I received our first moderna vaccine and in a few days we will receive our second shot. From what I have read within a week or two the vaccine will form antibodies against the covid-19 virus and in theory we can leave this horrible year behind us.

The question I pose that nobody in government seems to have an answer to is, can we now go back to normal? As a family we have done everything asked of us, testing regularly, limiting contact with our friends and family, keeping our daughter home with remote learning and of course masking up everywhere we go. I have heard “experts” say that even after the vaccination that we can still spread the coronavirus, I don’t understand the science on this assertion however,

If covid is transmitted via respiratory droplets from an infected person, then how can a fully vaccinated individual transmit when they won’t be infected?

Perhaps someone with a science background in Yonkers can explain it to us because we would like to get back into the world without a mask.

Scott Dennis, Yonkers
