Bake America Great Again!

This too is Yonkers–by Eric Schoen

I’m not your Whistleblower. Now that we have that settled, can you believe that in our transparent society the names of the two whistleblowers in matters regarding our President have not been made public? Or do you really care?

Are you fed up with the BREAKING NEWS ALERTs and WE INTERRUPT THIS PROGRAM on your television and radio  several times a day. Trump impeachment mess. Biden’s son making millions off his father’s name. Nancy Pelosi making money by helping VISA stop legislation in the Middle of an Initial Public Offering. Democrats and Republican putting their kids, parents and other relatives on the public payroll.

The only qualifications a Hunter Biden brings to the job is his connections to those in power. Are you like me and tired of this unethical if not illegal behavior. Are you tired of hearing the same stuff on television 24 hours a day. Yes friends, it’s time to turn the damn television and radio off and do something fun or different today to take our minds off this meshugahness.

Here are 18 things, 18 being ‘Chai’ in in Hebrew (meaning good luck) to take your mind away from the silliness, no craziness our political system puts before us. Simple, fun things to do to take your minds out of the cesspool that has overtaken us.

When was the last time you baked a cake. You know that wonderful aroma that invades your home when the cake is in the oven. Now you can even mix a few ingredients and bake a cake for 1 in a mug. Nothing better than that hot, fresh taste of a cake right from the oven.

Fall brings new movies. I saw Joaquin Phoenix in Joker over the weekend. The best clown movie since Shakes the Clown. Phoenix will definitely win an Oscar. And the nightmares that come with the movie are free.

Go on the TODAY TIX app and score a pair of rush tickets for Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish for $30 each. A better show you will never see. Now you don’t need to understand Yiddish (I don’t) to enjoy the performance. English and Russian Subtitles are broadcast on the stage, but if you have seen it once anywhere in the world the emotional performances in the show will mesmerize you

Have you been to your local library lately? Did you know that you can download books right on your iPad or Kindle for free. It’s easy to do and library staff will show you how it’s done. So many new things are available from your library many of which with a library card you can do from home.

Olive Garden is running their ‘All you can eat Pasta’ promotion right now. So many choices and toppings to choose from. Delicious salad and breadsticks accompany your meal. This feast takes us to the gym!

Many local gyms give a free week of membership for a guest. Check it out. See if the gym has everything you are looking for. Never sign up until you can make the commitment to go and you are sure the gym meets your needs.

Put all your Bed! bath and Beyond coupons together and start using them on things you need. When in the store ask the person in front or behind you in line if they have enough coupons for their order. Check out the Clearance items and the As Is items as you never know what bargains will end up brightening your home.

Veteran’s Day will soon be upon us. Take your favorite Veteran out for lunch on Veteran’s Day or any day of the year. Many restaurants give out free meals on Veteran’s Day. It’s so nice to see the restaurant waitstaff and the younger veterans come over and thank the older veterans for their service.

With the Targets and Walmarts and ‘Super Stores’ taking your shopping dollars, it’s nice to support the small businesses in town. They provide excellent customer service you won’t get in the big box retailers.

Buy a lottery ticket. There are different games that let you win a million dollars everyday of the week except Sunday. Of course, Bet with your head not over it!

When the sun is shining or even when it’s not shining, $1 McDonalds Ice Cream Cone brightens up any day. And it’s only 200 calories. Nothing can make a kid or adult smile like a McDonald’s soft serve ice cream cone. While you are at it, download the apps on your smartphone for the stores you shop in. 7-11 App lets you enjoy a $1 any size cup of coffee everyday. Burger King App gets you a $3 Double Whopper everyday. If you don’t have a smartphone, well it’s 2019. Get one! One company is now offering $20 a month for life for cell, data, texting, everything but the kitchen sink.

Never been on TV before? Get tickets for a television taping. MAURY, Jerry Springer and Steve Wilkos all film in Stamford, Connecticut. mauryshow.com , jerryspringertv.com or stevewilkos.com for details. Remember: don’t wear all white. It’s not good for the camera!

Volunteer to help high school students on their way to college in the Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE) program (914-377-4882) or help elementary school students learn to read through the JCY-WCP reading program (914)-423-5009.

If you must listen to the radio tune to National Public Radio (NPR) for shows like ‘Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me’ and great music on the FM NPR station.

Catch the free Staten Island Ferry and take pictures with the Statue of Liberty in the background. Don’t be a fool like Robert Dinero and buy tickets to the Statue of Liberty sold by unscrupulous individuals that took him on a bus ride to see the Lady in the Harbor from New Jersey!

Wonderful musicals, talks and programs free of charge at your local library. The Virgil Scott Swing Band plays a concert in memory of its deceased leader, Virgil Scott October 27 2 p.m. at the Will Library. November 3, 3 p.m. Allegro Singers Present Composers Born in November

Featuring music of Bellini, Donizetti, de Falla, and Copland at Will.

Contact your legislators and tell them what bothers you. In White Plains could it be the expansion of Red Light Cameras? Hey, at least like Mount Vernon and New Rochelle White Plains posts signs at the approach to intersections with Red Light Cameras alerting motorists to their existence. Sadly Yonkers refuses to do so!

Last but not least Hurray for our State Legislators and Governor Cuomo. For the first time Westchester and New York State will have Early Voting. I’m interested in seeing  if the system works. Join me!

18 Things you can do to get yourself away from the television and radio and the same news everyday. You deserve a break today! Do you remember what company used that slogan for their product? Good Luck!
