We have been asking around in Westchester as to who benefits from the disaster that is happening as people go to the polls and realize that they have to wait much longer to cast a ballot because our “High Tech” voting machines aren’t working.
Rebecca Lewis from City & State posted, “The voting machine situation in Westchester is bad for Dems. Part of the county is in the GOP-held NY-17, but it’s the more heavily Dem portion the party needs high turnout in if they hope to win. Also bad for Hochul. Westchester is the only suburb she won last time.”
But two Westchester republicans we spoke to told us that delays hurt republicans. “It helps democrats because many more republicans vote on Election Day. “There are also reports of republicans bailing out of long lines in Westchester.”
And, “1 out of 3 republicans voted early while 1 out of 2 democrats voted early. Lawyers are going to make a fortune on this one.”
NYAG James said, “My office is monitoring this issue with scanners in Westchester and is in touch with the state and local Boards of Elections as they work on a solution. Westchester voters can still safely fill out and turn in their ballots at their polling locations. Your votes will count.”
The Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, RCCC, said that they are sending staff to Westchester to monitor the ballot counting.
Westchester County makes up 30% of NY-17.
