State Senator Shelley Mayer
Yonkerstimes.com and Rising newspapers endorse Shelley Mayer for State Senate in District 37. Mayer is completing her 8th year in the Senate, after serving 6 years in the Assembly.
During her 14 years of service, Senator Mayer has helped ensure Westchester residents’ voices are heard in Albany.
Mayer has not served in a hyper-partisan manner. In fact, she has earned the respect of not only Democrats, but Independents and even Republicans, who are collegial with Mayer, a rare occurrence in today’s politics.
Mayer now serves as Chair of the Senate Education Committee, reflecting the respect she has earned with her colleagues and another way she can turn the concerns of parents and students in Westchester into action.
Mayer is accessible, visible, and deeply responsive to constituent needs. She is a leader in Albany who combines legislative competence with genuine community trust. Shelley Mayer has proven time and again that she possesses both.
Mayer was one of the loudest voices speaking out against utility rate hikes.
Senator Mayer also continues to work well with her leader in the Senate and fellow Westchester resident, State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins. Both Mayer and Stewart-Cousins are from Yonkers, and both continue to serve Yonkers and all of Westchester.
Whether fighting to safeguard working families, protecting reproductive freedoms, or advocating for our senior citizens and veterans, Senator Mayer’s priorities reflect her community’s core values.
Mayer’s opponent is Tom Fix, who is not running an active campaign, nor has he taken advantage of the NYS matching funds campaign. He ran for Assembly in 2024.
We endorse Shelley Mayer for State Senate District 37.
