Three new electric-vehicle charging stations, with the capacity to charge six cars, are now operational at the John C. Hart Memorial Library.
“It’s very convenient and a great thing for those who have hybrid or electric cars,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman at an October 1 unveiling. “Come on down and check out the library.”
The ChargePoint stations are pay-per-use. Drivers can use a ChargePoint account or a credit card.
“You’ll be able to pull in, read a book, get a charge, go home. You can’t beat it,” said Councilman Sergio Esposito.
Library Director Yvonne Cech said the project had been in the works for several years, and the project was funded through a combination of county and state grants, with approval from the Town Board. Visitors can connect to the parking lot Wi-Fi while charging.
“It’s an important service for the entire community, not just library patrons,” said Cech. “If you need to do some work in your car while you’re charging, you’re welcome to do that.”
The new installation adds to Yorktown’s growing network of EV charging options, including stations at Staples Plaza. The library, which is undergoing renovation construction, is open.
“Thank you for investing in Yorktown,” Councilman Patrick Murphy told Lachterman and Cech. “We’re investing in Yorktown because we see the need for it.”
