Blue Door Art Center is pleased to present It’s About Time, a two-person exhibition featuring collages by Judith Wilde and photographs by Richard Wilde, on view September 26 through October 31, 2026.
The exhibition brings together two distinct creative voices in an exploration of memory, visual language, experimentation, and the many ways time shapes experience, objects, and meaning.
Judith Wilde approaches the subject through intimate collages, many measuring just 8 by 8 inches. Using collage and pencil, she often begins with the face of a clock, incorporating antique clock faces and found imagery to explore the mystery, humor, and emotional resonance of particular moments in time.
Richard Wilde uses photography to document the effects of time and nature on vintage cast-iron figures, including World War I and World War II military toy soldiers. Enlarged far beyond their original scale, the weathered figures take on a striking new presence. His photographs also feature vintage Native American, Boy Scout, and Amish figures, as well as antique chocolate molds.
Together, the artists create a compelling contrast: Judith’s work is often playful and fanciful, while Richard’s photographs can carry an ominous, haunting beauty. Seen together, the two bodies of work offer a broader meditation on time – its ability to preserve, transform, erode, and renew.
As Judith and Richard Wilde describe their shared experience of creating the work, when they were fully present in the act of making art, “time stopped.”
Both artists have distinguished careers in art, design, and education and have been longtime friends and supporters of Blue Door Art Center.
