Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Joined Stop & Shop Pharmacists in Call for Residents to Get Their Flu and COVID-19 Shots
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, received both his flu and COVID-19 immunization from Stop & Shop Pharmacists at the New Rochelle Stop & Shop and called on residents of his county to get their flu and COVID-19 shots as early as possible this fall. The flu vaccine helps reduce serious respiratory illness and can help protect a person throughout the entire year. Stop & Shop pharmacies have been providing more immunizations year over year to protect its community.
Stop & Shop announced that the updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines are available at all its pharmacy locations across the Northeast, including its six pharmacies in Westchester County. Customers can receive immunizations for both the flu and COVID-19 during the same pharmacy visit. Vaccines are available at no cost with most insurance plans and are administered by Stop & Shop’s licensed, trained, and trusted pharmacists. In addition to annual flu and COVID-19 vaccinations, Stop & Shop Pharmacy offers a variety of immunizations that can help protect against respiratory illnesses, including RSV and pneumococcal disease, making it easy for customers to access preventive healthcare during their regular shopping trips.
“Our pharmacies play an important role in helping customers stay healthy throughout the year,” said Katie Thornell, Director of Pharmacy at Stop & Shop. “Whether it’s getting a flu shot, staying up to date on recommended vaccinations, filling a prescription, or speaking with one of our trusted pharmacists, we’re committed to providing convenient access to the care and resources our customers need to support their health and well-being.”
Flu shots and COVID-19 vaccines are available for a fee from many area pharmacists and medical offices. To find a vaccine near you, go to www.vaccines.gov. Flu vaccines are also available for uninsured and underinsured adults and children covered through the Vaccines for Adults and Vaccines for Children programs at Westchester County Department of Health clinics by appointment. Call 914-995-5800 weekdays before 4:30 p.m. to discuss eligibility.
“Getting your flu and COVID-19 vaccines is one of the simplest, and most important steps we can take to protect ourselves and our families as we head into the fall and winter months,” said Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. “Vaccination can help reduce the risk of serious illness and hospitalization, particularly for our senior citizens and those with underlying health conditions. I encourage all of our residents to talk with their doctor or healthcare provider, and make a plan to reduce their risk of sickness during flu and COVID season.”
Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler said: “Flu vaccines are safe and effective and they are the best protection we have against influenza. They can help keep you and those around you from becoming seriously ill throughout flu season, which can last into the spring. The sooner you get your flu shot the better.”
