For the 3rd year in a row, Yonkers Public Library and the Westchester Senior Law Day Collaborative are partnering to deliver advice to seniors and their families in Yonkers and beyond. The program is 100% virtual this year, with educational talks covering legal, financial and health topics – all with practical and timely information.
Seniors can access the program on the morning of Monday, June 1st, from 9-11 AM, in one of three convenient ways:
• Yonkers Public access TV Channels – 78 (Cablevision) and 39 (Verizon FIOS)
• Facebook Live from Yonkers Public Library – Senior Law Day
• By Toll-Free Phone: 1.408.418.9388 (Access code 712.797.297 and Password 9352663)
The program will feature six short presentations geared to issues that seniors face today. First, an attorney from the New York State Attorney General’s office will explain how scammers are operating in this COVID era and how to avoid scams. Next a nurse will show how to avoid potential infection while shopping. This hands-on demo will be followed by talks on protections to renters in light of the Tenant Protection Act of 2019 and an overview of Elder Law – everything families need to know about planning to preserve assets. The program will conclude with an overview of advanced directives and an update on the New York State Medicaid changes that have just been enacted.
