John Vorperian, Host of BEYOND THE GAME, White Plains Community Media and published sport historian, and other baseball researchers from several New England chapters of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) were recognized by the Worcester Red Sox at Polar Park August 29, 2026, before a game against the Scranton/Wilkes- Barre RailRiders.
“It was a blast to be on the field and acknowledged by the WooSox with fellow SABR members like Greg Tranter, Mark Kanter, Kurt Blumenau, Joanne Hulbert and other Diamond game enthusiasts” said Vorperian. Even though he is a New Yorker, the White Plains Community Media host has been a Boston Red Sox fan since age 10.
The ball game pitted the WooSox against the Yankees Triple A minor league affiliate. The group watched the contest seated in the Big Blue Bug Batters Box. That suite is located next to the WooSox dugout and places attendees at eye level 30 feet from home plate.
Vorperian noted, “As the RailRiders expanded their lead and won 9-1, I spent the game talking with Herb Crehan, a Red Sox Hall of Fame voter about the Sox players past and present. Look to the past and into the future, that is the way to survive when the home team nine drops a match.”
