Empire State Voices Launches “Mike Spike” Ad Campaign in NY-17

Empire State Voices is launching a $7,000 print ad spend, calling out Congressman Mike Lawler for his votes that are raising the cost of everyday essentials for New Yorkers.

The ads will run in Halston Media Newspapers across NY-17 starting tomorrow, August 27. This is part of the “Mike Spike,” an over $10,000 accountability campaign that has included mobile billboards, a banner drop over 287 to welcome in August Recess, and events throughout the district.

The ads will highlight Congressman Lawler’s support for the Republican Tax Law and tariffs that are raising costs across the board:

  • Since June 2025, over 400,000 New Yorkers have lost their healthcare coverage.
  • Since January of 2025, New Yorkers are spending $310 more on groceries.
  • In June alone, over 22,000 New Yorkers have lost their food stamp benefits.
  • New York families are spending  $432 more on gas.
  • Utility costs are up 10 % in New York in the last year.

Also sharing a statement, attributable to Dylan Wheeler, Empire State Voices Senior Organizing Director, ahead of the public release tomorrow.

“While Rep. Lawler is deciding what cable show to go on, his constituents are deciding whether or not they can fuel up their car or get groceries – that’s unacceptable. We need our Congressman to start supporting meaningful legislation to lower our costs, and stop putting partisan politics ahead of what’s best for New Yorkers.”
