The Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department has recently received reports of coyote sightings in several areas of the Village.
Coyotes are a natural part of our local environment and generally avoid people. By taking a few simple precautions, we can help keep both our community and local wildlife safe.
Here are a few important reminders: • Do not feed coyotes or leave pet food outdoors. • Secure garbage and recycling containers. • Keep pets on a leash and avoid leaving them unattended, especially at dawn, dusk, and nighttime. • Supervise children when they are playing outside. • Remove fallen fruit from trees to avoid attracting wildlife.
If you encounter a coyote: ✔️ Stay calm. ✔️ Do not run. ✔️ Make yourself appear large. ✔️ Make loud noises. ✔️ Back away slowly.
If a coyote is acting aggressively toward people or pets, or appears sick or injured, please contact the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department immediately at 914-478-2344.
