The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in the Bronx earlier this week.

According to investigators, the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Monday, June 23, near the intersection of Broadway and West 261st Street, adjacent to Van Cortlandt Park.

Police say the suspect first approached the victim while both were riding a northbound Bx9 bus. After the bus stopped, the suspect and the victim exited. Authorities allege the suspect then forcibly grabbed the girl and dragged her into a secluded wooded area inside Van Cortlandt Park, where she was sexually assaulted.

The incident was reported to officers assigned to the NYPD’s 50th Precinct. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. The NYPD has released surveillance images of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt featuring a stylized “U” on the front, gray pants, and black sneakers.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is urged to contact the NYPD Sex Crimes Hotline at 1-212-267-7273 or 646-610-7272, or Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish-speaking callers may dial 888-57-PISTA(74782). Tips can also be submitted online through the NYPD Crime Stoppers website or via @NYPDTips on X. All calls and messages are confidential.
