MARIA REGINA HS’s NEW MATH HONOR SOCIETY CHAPTER TRIUMPHS AT MATH LEAGUE COMPETITION

Two Students from Yonkers

Continuing its leadership in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) studies, Maria Regina High School’s recently established Math Honor Society chapter of Mu Alpha Theta excelled in its third year participating in the Catholic Math League competition, capturing top honors in the category of Geometry.

Prior to the creation of Mu Alpha Theta, Maria Regina students had competed in the Catholic Math League competition in 2024 and 2025.

“The triumphs were very impressive this year with major wins both at the state and national levels,” declared Maria Carozza-McCaffrey (Class of ’99), Principal of the renowned all-girls Catholic high school, adding: “Considering Maria Regina’s chapter is less than a year old, our students’ outstanding performance was truly remarkable, one that establishes Maria Regina as a major player in this highly competitive league.  We congratulate them for setting a record for themselves and their school.”

Among the kudos Maria Regina’s geometry wizards captured were:

●       Maria Regina was the top-performing high school in New York State (out of 13 other Catholic high school chapters that vied for the top honor)

●       Maria Regina ranked 7th nationally among 41 high schools.

In addition, Maria Regina’s first-time league contenders nabbed 5 of the top 10 spots in New York State, finishing in the top tier of the 156 students from across the state who participated.

The Maria Regina winners’ circle included:

●       Yeji Jeon, White Plains/South Korea, won first place in the Grade 11 category.  She also ranked 12th out of 436 participants nationally.

●       Madison Ramirez, Bronx, who won 2nd place, Grade 11.
