MOUNT VERNON MAN CONVICTED ON MULTIPLE WEAPONS CHARGES

Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that a 30-year-old Mount Vernon man was convicted on multiple counts of weapons possession. This jury trial was presided over by Westchester County Court Judge Robert Prisco.

After a week-long jury trial, Tre Herring was convicted of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. Herring’s arrest stemmed from an incident which occurred on May 17, 2025, where three gunshots were fired on South 2nd Avenue in Mount Vernon. Mount Vernon police recovered three 9mm shell casings at the scene of this shooting.

DA Cacace said: “This case is a prime example of the diligent and thorough police work exhibited by our police officers. Their unwavering determination in identifying and apprehending Tre Herring for illegal firearm possession is commendable.

“I also want to acknowledge the fine work of my prosecutors for their dedicated efforts throughout this jury trial, as this conviction reflects the commitment of my entire office to our fight against the scourge of gun violence in our community.”

Sentencing is scheduled for March 10. Herring is facing 7 to 15 years in state prison.

This investigation was handled by the Mount Vernon Police Department and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.

The case was prosecuted by Bureau Chief James Bavero and ADA Andre Ingenito of the Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau.
