The Sharing Shelf Celebrates Sock-tober!

By Dan Murphy

One of the great Westchester organizations that helps those who need it most is The Sharing Shelf. Here’s a little bit of news they shared.

We are so grateful to Jenn Puja and @wpclbaflcio for donating 600 pairs of socks for the second year in a row! Socks may seem small, but they are critical —especially at this time of year —to help children and teens look good and feel good. This generous donation to the sock drive makes a real impact.

At The Sharing Shelf, socks are included in every Wardrobe Pack we prepare, and teens get to choose their favorites in our Teen Boutique. Socks are essentials for everyday comfort, from lacing up sneakers to kick a ball, shoot hoops, or run laps on the track, to keeping feet warm and dry on cold, rainy days or snowy winter mornings.

In 2024, The Sharing Shelf distributed over 35,000 pairs of socks. We are on pace to distribute nearly 50,000 pairs in 2025. Your support makes this possible.

Make this October Sock-tober and organize a sock drive today to help us keep kids and teens comfortable, confident, and ready for whatever the season brings.

One Sharing Shelf volunteer wrote, “I volunteer at this organization. It’s incredibly effective in helping children in need of clothing, so they are proud when they show up at school, and they don’t have to be ashamed because of holes or worn clothing.

“It’s more than just donating to this organization. It’s improving children’s self-esteem across Westchester. I encourage you to do what you can to support this organization.

“It’s unique in many ways. One of the most important things is that when anything is delivered to a child, it is delivered via a social worker or similar individual, so that you know that your donation of clothing is going to have a child’s name on it and be hand-delivered to a child in need.

“So let’s all do our part to raise a level of happiness in our child.” Amen.
