We Endorse: Frank Jereis, Democratic Primary, Assembly 90th District-Yonkers

Frank Jereis

For the 90th Assembly District, Yonkers Times endorses Democrat Frank Jereis.

With Nader Sayegh retiring, Yonkers voters will have the chance to elect a new representative in Albany,  After looking at both candidates, the Yonkers Times strongly urges voters to support Democrat Frank Jereis in the June 23rd Primary.

Frank is a lifelong Yonkers resident who knows our community, understands our challenges, and will be a fresh voice in making sure we get our fair share from Albany.

Frank was motivated to get into politics after witnessing Trump’s attacks on the Capitol in 2021. Prior to that he had earned his degree in Biology and had intended to go to Medical School, but the calling to fight back against Trump’s extremism took him on a different path.

A progressive Democrat, Frank is 100% pro-choice. He’s walked picket lines with striking workers to get better pay and protect hard-earned benefits. He served on the Human Rights Commission and will always defend all residents.  And Frank lives the reality of facing Yonkers’ daunting housing costs and increasing cost of living.

But Frank also shows that he understands that Albany needs to do better, pointing out that Yonkers schools are still not getting our fair share of funding, we need to invest in infrastructure, and we need to lower housing costs for young people, families, and seniors.  Frank has also made a major issue of stopping the abusive utility rate hikes that are crushing Yonkers families, which is a critical need right now.

Frank has the skills, experience and values to shake up Albany and deliver for our community, which is why in addition to this publication, he has also been endorsed by Mayor Spano, County Executive Ken Jenkins, Senator Shelley Mayer and a host of labor unions, environmental groups, and progressive leaders across Yonkers.

Frank’s opponent, Jeannette Garcia, is a relatively new resident of Yonkers who still seems to be learning what Yonkers families need.  A landlord, she only moved to Yonkers 3 years ago and her endorsers are mostly politicians from her longtime Bronx base. While we appreciate her desire to serve, we feel that she would be better served learning more about this community before trying to be our voice in Albany.

We endorse Frank Jereis in the democratic primary on June 23 for Assembly -90th District
