Going to Teach in Oklahoma? Everyone out of the Pool!

By Eric Wolf Schoen

Did you wake up earlier this week and hear that potential teachers in Oklahoma would be required to take a test to see, in a nutshell how they stand politically prior to appointment. !Here in a country where we have hard enough time recruiting teachers, now we elected officials playing games with the small pool we have.

So what kind of tests can we have? If I like  vanilla pudding or strawberry vs. chocolate, does that make me a liberal? If I like to use my finger to get the pudding out of the bottom of the cup and my friend doesn’t does that mean anything politically?

How about if I like my meat well done but others like it rare. Does that make me a conservative if I like meat well cooked?

If I wear clothing from Bloomingdale’s and my friend likes clothing from Burlington does that make me a conservative.

Take a political test? The teachers need to give sample lessons that’s the tests they should be giving. Like many initiatives from Trumpland doubt this willl go anywhere.

Everyone Out of the Pool!

Another summer has come and gone. Whether the beach, a swimming pool or other body of water we took a dip and enjoyed every minute of it. The weather is changing. Hurricane remnants flowing our way this week. Time for everyone to be careful when you are in the pool or at the beach. Don’t go in the water if the lifeguard and signs say so. And if you go in the water adults make sure you’re watching the children. And Good to have other eyes out there keeping everyone safe.

Dad always told the story of how he learned to swim in the Hudson River. My sister was told by her instructor to jump in the pool and she would be in the advance class. She jumped and would up end up swimming with those the best swimmers in her group.

She went on to direct day camps were she saw to it that every child learned how to swim.

As for me, my parent and sister and family friends tossed me around the pool and I quickly became the good swimmer I am. The great Marge BRUNO also taught me how to swim at Tibbets Brook Pool.

Swimming exercises all parts of your body, but don’t go in the water alone or swim in water above your ability.

Let’s keep everyone safe for many more summers! Contact the Red Cross for information on where you can get low cost, high quality swim classes. Remember, how do you become a good swimmer?

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
