The Mount Vernon Police Department issued a statement addressing a bag containing firearms left in a parking lot. The MVPD explained that a community member contacted them to arrange the surrender of firearms, ammunition, a firearm scope, and a bulletproof vest. A department representative coordinated a time and location for the collection of these items.
On August 4th, the scheduled drop-off and immediate retrieval took place in the parking lot across from City Hall.
The department asserts that such exchanges are occasionally facilitated as a means of reducing violence and removing firearms from the community.
