We Endorse: Dean Politopolous for City Council President, Republican Primary June 24

Republicans in Yonkers have a primary, which is already underway in early voting, with primary day June 24. Dean Politopolous and Ron Schutte are facing off to see who will be the GOP’s nominee to be on the ballot in November for Yonkers City Council President.

Politopolous is retired from the Yonkers Police Department, where he served for many years as the YPD’s Public Information Officer. This experience provides him with invaluable knowledge when discussing crime with voters, as well as in communicating his overall message to encourage voters to consider and vote for him.

Ron Schutte is running as the outsider, with a slogan “United we can dismantle the Yonkers Political Syndicate”. His two key issues are restoring term limits and protecting local zoning.

The two participated in a League of Women Voters debate where both men were civil to each other and each showed knowledge of the issues facing the city.

At the Yonkers GOP Convention earlier this year, Politopolous received 80% of the support from district leaders and rank-and-file Yonkers Republicans

He also has the support of most of the prominent republicans in Yonkers and Westchester County, notably Congressman Mike Lawler, Assemblyman Matt Slater, and one of our favorites, former Councilman John Larkin.

While some of Schutte’s thoughts on reforming Yonkers’ government and offering an alternative voice are appealing, Politopolous has a higher ceiling, which could resonate better for republicans in the general election.

His experience in the Yonkers Police Department is a benefit in the upcoming Republican primary.

We endorse Dean Politopolous in the republican primary for Yonkers City Council President June 24.
