State Senator Mayer Welcomes Youth Advisory Council to Albany

State Senator Shelley B. Mayer welcomed 21 members of her Youth Advisory Council to Albany on Tuesday, April 29. Each year, the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) visits the New York Capital to see the Senate and Assembly Chambers, watch the legislature in session, tour the Capitol building, and meet with lawmakers. In addition, this year they presented comprehensive policy proposals of their own to legislators and their staff.

In addition to speaking with Senator Mayer, the students met with Senators Jamaal Bailey and Brian Kavanagh and Assembly Member Chris Burdick.

Senator Shelley B. Mayer said, “I was delighted to welcome members of my Youth Advisory Council to Albany this week for their annual visit. The young people in our district are remarkably well-informed and engaged with what is happening in our communities, our State and beyond. They have terrific ideas and unique perspectives that should be fostered, encouraged, and expressed.  “I am proud to have such an active Youth Advisory Council – led by Christine Fils-Aimé, my Director of Constituent Services and Community Affairs, and Luis Ochoa, my Constituent Services and Community Affairs Associate. Christine and Luis have helped innumerable members of our community with dedication and knowledge, and I am thrilled with their commitment to the YAC.  “I would also like to thank my legislative colleagues for prioritizing their visit to the Youth Advisory Council and for providing valuable insights.”

The “YAC” is a bold and inspiring group of young changemakers who work with my team, taking the lead on powerful community initiatives like food drives, college fairs, and advocacy trips, while also helping to shape legislative priorities by elevating youth perspectives and championing the voices of their generation across District 37.
