Defendant allegedly shot the victim twice in the back inside her apartment
Westchester County District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah announced today that a Georgia man was arraigned on an indictment in which he is charged with second-degree murder for fatally shooting his 30-year-old girlfriend inside her apartment in New Rochelle.
DA Rocah said: “The intersection of gun violence and intimate partner violence can be deadly. The defendant, Robert Wooten, 29 of Atlanta, Georgia, was arraigned today before New York State Supreme Court Judge Larry J. Schwartz in Westchester County Court on a grand jury indictment charging him with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.
The defendant remains remanded at the Westchester County Jail since his arrest.
According to the felony complaint, at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Aug. 24, the defendant, fired a loaded gun multiple times at Meisha Williams, his girlfriend of several years, shooting her twice in the back inside her apartment at 55 Clinton Place in New Rochelle.
Friends of the victim discovered the victim’s body on the bathroom floor of the apartment and contacted the New Rochelle Police Department, who located the defendant in Queens where he was arrested.
The case is being prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorneys Kevin Jones and Marissa Morra-Wynn of the Trials and Investigations Division.
The charges against the defendant are merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
